‘You know what…’ – Aston Villa fans react as Tammy Abraham news emerges

Aston Villa supporters have given mixed reactions online to the news of their interest in re-signing former loan star Tammy Abraham in the January window.

Villa have massively impressed this season despite a tough summer window which saw them spend money on just one player, Evann Guessand, amid financial concerns.

Unai Emery has led his side to third in the Premier League as it stands, with star striker Ollie Watkins returning to form as of late after a slow start to the campaign.

Watkins is his only real out-and-out centre-forward option right now, however, and Villa have signed young striker Brian Madjo from Metz, but he is likely to feature in their academy set up for now.

Another forward is set to be on Emery‘s radar, and Abraham may be set to make a surprise return to the Second City after a new development.

Villa are interested in re-signing Abraham this month

Abraham currently plies his trade with Turkish side Besiktas, but he featured on loan at Villa from Chelsea in the 2018-19 campaign as they won promotion back to the Premier League.

The England striker netted 26 goals in 40 appearances for the club that season, and he could well return to the Second City soon, six-and-a-half years on from his departure.

A new report from The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath claims that Villa are eyeing a move for Abraham as they look to strengthen Emery’s squad and keep pace at the top of the Premier League.

Abraham, 28, is on loan at Besiktas from Roma this season, but is understood to be on Villa’s radar this month as they aim to sign competition for Watkins.

Signing the 28-year-old would be a complicated deal, as he is midway through a spell in Turkey that will be made permanent for £11.2 million if certain conditions are met, but Villa are reportedly determined to make it happen.

Villa fans deliver mixed views on Abraham return link

Villa are a club with lofty ambitions, so the potential for Abraham to return has been questioned by supporters who believe they need to move on from a past favourite.

Many supporters have shown excitement at the link, however, as their fond memories of his previous spell at the club come flooding back.

Taking to X, one fan said: “Absolutely not. Never. Please no,” while another contrastingly said: “Haven’t wanted a transfer to happen this much in a long, long time.

More fans questioned the potential move, with one saying: “As much as I love Tammy, let’s not let sentimentality take over.”

While other supporters are all for him returning, with one saying: “You know what. If it’s cheap, do it. Guy knows the club and will be a good physical option off the bench as well as a stopgap to give time to the younger forwards we have.
