‘You’re not good enough’ – Oliver Glasner outburst will rip Crystal Palace dressing room apart

Oliver Glasner dropped bombshell after bombshell as he made his unhappiness at Crystal Palace clear in the wake of their defeat against Sunderland.

The Eagles lost 2-1 to Sunderland last time out, but the result was overshadowed by the manager’s comments as he hit out at the board and members of his squad.

Prior to the game, Glasner revealed he would leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, and also announced that Marc Guehi would be leaving the club to join Man City.

The boss’ clear unhappiness then spilled over after the game, as he insisted he had been “abandoned” by the board and left with a squad which is not good enough.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that while there is some validation to the boss’ anger, his latest comments are “unacceptable”.

Oliver Glasner told to apologise for Crystal Palace outburst

Glasner named both Christantus Uche and 16-year-old Joel Drakes-Thomas in a rant about his squad when asked why he did not make any substitutions against Sunderland.

However, he is expected to clarify his comments and apologise to the individual players behind the scenes, or else he will risk upsetting an already downtrodden squad.

Oliver Glasner is frustrated, I understand that,” Brown told Football Insider.

“With Guehi leaving, his squad is down to the bare bones, he feels he doesn’t have the support of the board, and all of those criticisms are fair.

“I’m sympathetic to him in that case, because he’s earned the right to be supported more than he feels he has been, but you can’t start talking about individual players.

“It’s not the players’ fault, they’re on the bench because of injuries and other issues, but they’re still Crystal Palace players and should be treated as such.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re young and have only played a handful of games, or if the manager doesn’t necessarily think they’re good enough, he cannot say that publicly.

“There are different ways to dress it up, he’s being put in a position where he has to take a gamble on young players earlier than he may have liked to.

“Instead, he’s come out and basically said ‘Yeah, you’re on the bench, but I don’t think you’re good enough’, that’s unacceptable.

“I expect he’ll have spoken to the players he named and I think he should be apologising, because his gripes should be with the club, not the players.”

Could Crystal Palace sack Glasner?

Crystal Palace heavily considered sacking Glasner, with his position seemingly untenable after his very public and widely-covered outburst.

Despite suggestions he could have been immediately dismissed, a meeting was held to clear the air on Sunday morning, and Palace opted against pulling the trigger.

However, fans have gone as far as to suggest Glasner has ruined his legacy at Crystal Palace, in what is potentially a bitter ending to the unprecedented success of his spell.

Glasner led Palace to their first ever major trophy as they lifted the FA Cup in May, and has retained a lot of good will for doing so despite his latest comments.

However, should he continue to aim digs at the club’s hierarchy, he may well find himself dismissed much earlier than anybody in South London had expected.
