Youri Tielemans’ touch map speaks volumes – Aston Villa’s three winners from 2-1 vs Leeds

Morgan Rogers’ brace proved the difference as Aston Villa came from behind to narrowly beat Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road.

Rogers has recently signed a new contract at Aston Villa and shined against Leeds, but three other stars also caught the eye in the contest.

The three points lifts Aston Villa up to fourth, and means Emery’s side remain one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League.

The Aston Villa captain looked to be one of few players up for the fight at Elland Road in the first half, as the hosts made it a physical encounter.

John McGinn played a lovely weighted pass through to Ollie Watkins, who was denied a shot on goal by a superb Joe Rodon challenge in the first half.

The 31-year-old kept trying to drive his team forward, even when the midfielder appeared frustrated at the referee’s decision-making.

Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans has been out of action since Aston Villa’s draw against Everton in September, in what has proved a blow for Emery.

Tielemans’ return to the starting XI against Leeds was a plus for Emery as the technically gifted Belgian has the ability to dictate the play in the middle of the park.

It was a solid performance from the 28-year-old, who completed 11 accurate passes in the final third, the most of any Aston Villa player.

Donyell Malen

Donyell Malen had a positive international break for the Netherlands, and fans had wanted the forward to start over Ollie Watkins.

The Dutchman though came on at half-time to great effect, providing the cross for Morgan Rogers to steer home at the front post.

Malen has only increased his starting claims with his second half showing, with Watkins under growing pressure to perform.
