‘You’ve got to take your hat off to him’ – Exclusive: Bruce in awe of Spurs player reveal
Alex Bruce suggests Tottenham may not be best pleased that Heung-min Son is performing national service in South Korea during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the attacker deserves credit for doing something beneficial during a “horrific” time.
Spurs confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old will undertake his mandatory national service while back home in South Korea, stating he will return to London in May.
However, Bruce is not sure how the club will feel about him choosing to do his duty at this current time.
Bruce told Football Insider: “Well I think everybody who knows Son, by the looks of him as a lad, he’s a proper lad and he’d rather fill his time doing something beneficial to his country by doing his national service.
“You’ve got to take your hat off to him. I don’t know if Tottenham will be too happy with that, him going over there and what have you but listen, while he’s not doing anything else, why not?
“If there’s any positives to come out of this horrific time, him going over there and doing his national service will be good.”
Son has been a mainstay for the Lilywhites for a number of years, with 220 appearances, 83 goals and 44 assists under his belt.
He had scored 16 times in 32 games this season before a broken arm suffered in February ruled him out for Jose Mourinho’s men.
