Zinedine Zidane odds-on favourite for top manager’s job after recent development

Despite establishing himself as one of the best managers of this generation, Zinedine Zidane has yet to return to the dugout since he left Real Madrid in 2021.

Across two spells at the Spanish giants, the Frenchman won numerous trophies, including three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles.

His success saw him become the only manager in history to win three consecutive Champions League trophies, as he oversaw a golden era in the Spanish capital.

Despite Zidane being linked to multiple jobs in the Premier League since his departure from Madrid in 2021, he has yet to take up a new role.

However, the bookies now appear certain that he will become the France National Team manager when Didier Deschamps departs.

Zinedine Zidane 2/5 to take France National Team job

With the 2026 World Cup just months away from beginning, the pressure is no doubt on plenty of managers to deliver the trophy.

One of the favourites going into the tournament are no doubt France.

Deschamps, who led the nation to World Cup glory in 2018, boasts numerous top players in his squad, including Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.

However, no matter what happens in the summer, the manager looks set to end his 14-year stay in the role after announcing in January 2025 that he would depart when his contract expires after the World Cup.

Now, with the exit getting closer to becoming official, one bookmaker has made Zidane the clear favourite.

Currently, the 53-year-old is 2/5 to take over, with Oddschecker confirming that these odds have been slashed.

Who else is in the running for the France National Team job?

Plenty of top managers are believed to be in the running for the France National Team job ahead of the summer.

The second-favourite is former England manager Gareth Southgate at 8/1.

The former Three Lions boss is yet to take up a new role after leading his nation to two consecutive European Championship finals.

From here, Jose Mourinho is 10/1, with the manager currently impressing at Benfica, while Pep Guardiola is 12/1, with his long-term future at Man City under question.

A potential outsider is Herve Renard, who is the current Saudi Arabia manager and formerly took charge of the France Women between 2023 and 2024.

Renard is 14/1 to take over as he also prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
