This would be the best: New Aston Villa signing looks for home debut to remember

By Danny Wright

New Aston Villa signing Scott Hogan has revealed that he would love to get a goal on his home debut for the club.

The 24-year-old is expected to start for Steve Bruce’s side at Villa Park against Ipswich on Saturday.

Hogan made his first appearance for the Birmingham club against Nottingham Forest in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat.

Villa signed the striker for £12million from Brentford in January, after scoring 14 Championship goals for the club this campaign.

“My job is scoring goals. And I love that buzz,” Hogan said to the Express and Star.

“There’s nothing better than scoring a goal in front of your own fans – seeing that joy, that elation on the faces of your own fans in the stands. Seeing that raw emotion is the best feeling in the world.

“I can’t wait to score my first goal – I want to do that quickly and then kick on.

“To score in front of 40,000 plus at Villa Park will be one of the very best things I have done in my life, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Hogan was part of a mass winter recruitment drive at Villa Park which saw seven new players join the club.

Six of those new signings, including Hogan, started in the loss at Nottingham Forest last Saturday and manager Bruce is expected to keep them in the first team as he looks for the side to gel.

Villa are spending their first season outside of the Premier League since the league’s inception in 1992. The fans will be hoping for an instant return to the top flight. However the club are currently languishing in 14th place and are closer to the relegation zone than the play-off places.

After their match against Ipswich, Villa have another home tie against overachieving Barnsley on Tuesday night.
