Conte reveals Chelsea injury blow ahead of Community Shield v Arsenal
By Abigail Withey
Antonio Conte has confirmed that Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko will not play in Sunday’s Community Shield match against Arsenal due to injury.
The Chelsea boss also stated that he doesn’t expect the duo to be fit for the club’s Premier League opener against Burnley next weekend either.
The London outfit confirmed the injury news on their official Twitter account on Friday following Conte’s press conference.
Hazard remains out following an operation on his ankle which he fractured while on international duty with Belgium earlier in the summer, while new recruit Bakayoko is also sidelined following recent surgery on his knee.
Fans will be disappointed as they would have undoubtably been keen to see their new playmaker from Monaco in action.
Hazard will be noticeably missed after he made a key contribution to Chelsea’s title win last season when he scored 16 goals during 36 matches in the league.
In other Chelsea news, a four-year deal was signed as this defender left the club.
