Rangers must look to Sam Allardyce solution for huge issue threatening to derail season
COMMENT
Rangers 1-0 home defeat against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday equals a record that was set way back in the WWI era and if the Light Blues are going to challenge Celtic next season that needs to change.
Not since the 1914/15 campaign have the Light Blues suffered such a vast number of home defeats – seven now to be precise.
And it’s a statistic that has cost them 21 points so far, ending any dreams they had of winning a championship title.
As it stands, there are just nine points separating the Old Firm sides and had Graeme Murty’s men been able to collect even half of those 21 points, we’d be talking about potential title winners.
It’s not good enough and it’s definitely an issue that the Light Blues management needs to address.
For many years Ibrox has been a fortress for the Scottish giants, a place dreaded by opposing sides but for the home side, a place where the atmosphere can be fed off to their advantage.
At the moment that’s not happening and questions need to be asked of this current crop of players because while they appear to be able to talk the talk, can they really walk the walk?
Their failure at home has become a stigma and one that doesn’t look like going anywhere anytime soon, moreover it signals a mental weakness that isn’t otherwise apparent away from the pressures at home.
Sam Allardyce brought in a sports psychologist to eradicate his own side’s failure away from Goodison Park which ended Everton’s poor run on the road – maybe this is what Murty needs to do.
