Experienced Rangers star nears return but how will Murty fit him in to crowded squad?
COMMENT
Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans is nearing a return from injury after several months on the sidelines but with Rangers adding a host of new players in January, where does the 30-year-old fit in Graeme Murty’s plans?
The experienced midfielder has yet to kick a ball under Murty as manager after being injured in Pedro Caixinha’s final game in charge of the Ibrox giants but is clearly one of the better players in the Gers squad.
The former Norwich and West Brom ace spent much of this season playing in central midfield but with Sean Goss, Jason Holt, Greg Docherty and the returning Ross McCrorie and Jordan Rossiter all other possible options there it’s far from certain that he’ll simply continue where he left off before his injury.
Dorrans could perhaps be used in the number 10 role occupied by Josh Windass and look to be the link between the Gers’ midfield and attack as well as offering a bit more defensively than Windass does in the same spot.
The former Scotland international is unlikely to only be a squad player when he returns so it could even force a tactical switch from Murty to accommodate Dorrans in his starting XI.
Regardless of what happens, Dorrans’ return will be a big boost to the Gers as they look to secure second place in the Scottish Premiership table.
