Pundit issues ‘huge’ Man United dressing room claim

Noel Whelan has praised Erik ten Hag’s role in transforming the “camaraderie” and “togetherness” at Man United since his appointment.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Red Devils are “gelling together” in the dressing room after a “shambolic” 2021-22 campaign.

Man United have found a solid foundation in recent weeks, winning their last four games since dropping key men Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire from the starting eleven.

The Red Devils stars have shown an improved togetherness on the pitch this term – celebrating successful challenges and positive play as a team.

Legendary striker Wayne Rooney was one of a number of high-profile stars to brand Man United a “team of individuals” during a dismal 2021-22 campaign.

However, Whelan suggested Ten Hag has already made great strides towards ditching that tag.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Camaraderie like that is huge to a successful team.

“You’ve got to have that relationship and togetherness. If you haven’t got that – it’s just a team of individuals who won’t work hard enough for one another.

“Right now, you’re seeing a team who are gelling together. They realise that last season was an absolute shambles.

“This year they’ve got a direction, they have a solid manager in place who has brought his own methods.

“They can either buy into it, or they don’t.

“He’s not going to take any rubbish, it doesn’t matter who you are. He’s proven that by dropping Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s bringing everyone together.”
