Rafa Benitez would provide Jonjo Shelvey with the perfect partner by raiding bitter rivals Middlesbrough for midfielder Adam Forshaw.
The Daily Mail claim fellow Premier League new boys Brighton are interested in continuing their summer revamp by bringing Forshaw to the south coast.
It is said that the Seagulls are desperate to strengthen their options in the middle of the park as they look to fight against an instant return to the Championship during 2017-18.
Forshaw, 25, was one of Middlesbrough’s star performers in their right against the drop last season, which ultimately saw them fail in their efforts to remain in the Premier League.
Benitez has already brought in Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Mikel Merino, Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu but a central midfielder must be considered by the Spaniard.
