Man United are actively monitoring the situation of red-hot Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a Premier League move for several years due to his goalscoring exploits in Serie A.

Erik ten Hag’s side will be in the market for a prolific striker capable of catapulting Man United into the title race for the 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (9 May) that Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the “number one priority and top target” for United as he enters the final year of his Spurs contract.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are set to pull the plug on their pursuit of Napoli star Victor Osimhen as they believe his £100million+ price tag is too extortionate.

There are concerns behind the scenes about Osimhen’s lack of Premier League experience, as well as his patchy injury record.

Martinez has never played in England, but a deal could be easier to do for Man United as the World Cup winner would command a smaller price tag.

It is believed Inter Milan will need to balance their books if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Nerazzurri currently occupy the final top-four space but will face stiff competition from rivals AC Milan and Atalanta in the final four games of this term.

Martinez, who is under contract until June 2026 at Inter, has notched 23 goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances this season.

He and Inter could reach the Champions League final if they can beat rivals AC Milan across two legs in the competition’s semi-final.

Football Insider revealed last week (5 May) that Chelsea are keen on Martinez and have looked into a potential deal this summer.
