Sources: Big update on Newcastle United signing new keeper in January
Newcastle United are in no rush to secure a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies are willing to keep second-choice shot-stopper Martin Dubravka in between the sticks until Nick Pope returns from his long-term injury which he sustained against Man United earlier this month.
Football Insider revealed (3 December) that the club fear that Pope could be sidelined for up to four months after dislocating his shoulder in the 1-0 win.

The Englishman was the latest in a long line of injuries for the Magpies this season, with Eddie Howe missing 11 other first-team stars as well as Sandro Tonali through suspension for betting violations.
Football Insider also revealed (4 December) that the club are readying a move for free agent David De Gea, who has been without a club since his summer exit from Man United.
Dubravka started Newcastle’s most recent fixture against Everton on Thursday (7 December) where he conceded three goals to a high-flying Everton side in the 3-0 defeat.
However, the Magpies may opt to stick with the Slovakian.
Before Pope’s injury, Dubravka had made just one appearance this season in the 3-0 League Cup victory over the Red Devils last month.
He joined Newcastle permanently in 2018 after a loan spell from Sparta Prague but has amassed just five appearances since the 2020/21 season.

Newcastle sit seventh in the Premier League table after their defeat at Goodison Park and will face Tottenham away on Sunday afternoon (10 December).
