Aaron Ramsdale would be ‘top signing for Newcastle United’ – pundit
Aaron Ramsdale should be wary of a move from Arsenal to Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Rangers defender Alan Hutton claimed that Ramsdale, 25, would not become the guaranteed number-one for the Magpies if he swaps the Emirates for St James’ Park.
Eddie Howes’ side have reportedly reignited their interest in the goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window and he is keen to become a starter again after Gunners boss Mikel Arteta made David Raya his first pick between the sticks.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s normal number-one Nick Pope remains out injured after he sustained a shoulder injury in training back in December, with Martin Dubravka stepping in since.

Hutton was adamant that Ramsdale would be a “top” signing for the Magpies but felt he deserves to be a guaranteed starter – something he feels is not certain on Tyneside.
“What a signing Ramsdale would be for Newcastle,” he told Football Insider.
“He was a little bit unfortunate to lose his place at Arsenal and it’s probably dented his confidence hugely.
“He’s a number-one goalkeeper, so he has to play.
“All this nonsense about having two number-ones in the squad and picking the best one – it just does not sit right with me.
“For as long as I’ve played the game, you always knew who the number-one was.
“You had a good back-up who would come in because goalkeepers rarely miss games.
“Newcastle getting Ramsdale would be a great signing.
“Your only problem with that is you then have him and Pope.
“Would Pope become number-two?
“There’s a whole decision to make again.
“If Ramsdale moves, he wants to be number-one, he does not want to be in the same situation that he’s in right now at Arsenal.”
