After a PL record: Alan Shearer comments on stunning Harry Kane display for Tottenham
By Amir Mir
Alan Shearer has jokingly told Harry Kane to “calm down” after the Tottenham striker hit a stunning hat-trick for his side during their 4-0 thrashing of Stoke on Sunday afternoon.
The 23-year-old was in devastating form as he tore the opposition team to shreds by hitting a stunning 23-minute hat-trick in the Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer, who is the all-time leading goalscorer in the PL with 260 goals, questioned whether Kane is after his record.
At this moment in time, the England international has 66 goals in 107 league games and could well reach that target in the near future if injuries don’t affect him.
Here is Shearer commenting on Kane after his stunning performance:
“Calm down Harry Kane! What is he after…a Premier League record or something?” Shearer told BBC Sport.
Last season, Kane was the top scorer in England’s top flight with 25 goals, beating the likes of Sergio Aguero and fellow Englishman Jamie Vardy to the top prize.
As a result, his team finished in a Champions League spot and for the majority of the campaign they were challenging surprise winners Leicester City for the PL trophy.
This season, Kane has continued that impressive run, netting 17 goals in 21 league games and 21 goals in all competitions.
His performances have seen the north London club move into second place in the table as they are on 53 points from their 26 matches, ten points behind leaders Chelsea.
Furthermore, it was the third hat-trick that Kane had netted in his last nine matches, his previous two came against Fulham in the FA Cup and West Brom in the league.
In other Tottenham news, fans have been left unimpressed with the performance of this 23-year-old against Stoke.
