Agbonlahor ‘100%’ sure about Harvey Barnes joining Newcastle after source’s reveal – ‘I love him’

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Leicester midfielder Harvey Barnes to hit new heights if he completes a summer move to Newcastle.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old would be a “definite upgrade” on winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Sources told this site on Thursday (13 April) that Newcastle will have to pay Leicester £50million to land summer target Barnes.

Tottenham are also long-term admirers of the England international, who is out of contract at the King Power Stadium in June 2025.

Barnes has notched 10 goals and three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season – with all 10 strikes coming in the Premier League.

Newcastle and Tottenham are also set to go head-to-head over a summer deal for Leicester captain James Maddison.

The Foxes sit 19th in the Premier League – and Barnes and Maddison are just two of seven potential stars who could leave the Midlands club if they are relegated.

When asked if Barnes would be a good signing for Newcastle, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “100%. I love him.

“I love watching Barnes. When I watch him, I feel that he could be one to develop at a top club.

“Say if he was at Man City, I think Pep could get even more out of Harvey Barnes.

“Sometimes he can make the wrong decision, but a top manager would get more goals, more assists, and the right decision out of him – when to run with it, when to pass it.

“He’s a top player and if Newcastle can get him on board then he’d be a definite upgrade on Allan Saint-Maximin.”
