Agbonlahor: ‘Angry’ Aston Villa stars ‘trashed’ the dressing room after Smith reveal

The Aston Villa squad will have “trashed” the dressing room after their late collapse against Wolves, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Dean Smith should focus on the positives after they raced into a 2-0 lead.

However, Villa conceded three goals from set-pieces in the final 10 minutes as they fell to a 3-2 defeat in the Midlands derby.

As quoted by Sky Sports after the game, Smith labelled his side’s fourth defeat of the season “a travesty”.

“You look at the second goal, Conor Coady scored, that was a bit lucky,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You’re going to be under pressure at sometimes the ball just falls for the opposition and they just put it in. It was unlucky for Tuanzebe. The ball was put into a dangerous area and it was a lucky finish. You can’t blame the team for the second goal.

“For the winner, it’s a lucky free-kick. The ball was going to the corner flag, it was a dreadful free-kick from Neves. It unluckily deflects off Matt Targett and goes in. You can’t blame any coach.

“Aston Villa deserved all three points but sometimes it happens in football. Dean Smith will be disappointed, the players will be disappointed.

“I’ve been there. The players probably went into the changing room and trashed the place. They will have been so angry and frustrated.

“When you look back at it, these things happen, lucky goals.

“They’ve got to keep their heads up. If they play like they did for the first 60, 65 minutes against Arsenal, they’ll beat Arsenal. It’s not all doom and gloom.”

In other news, Aston Villa plan to accept an £18million bid for a 26-year-old.
