Agbonlahor can’t believe Richarlison could quit Tottenham for Euro giants in cut-price deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Tottenham should persevere with Richarlison despite reported Real Madrid interest in a summer deal.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Spurs would lose money if they chose to sell the 25-year-old at the end of the season.

According to ESPN (13 February), Real Madrid are tracking Richarlison ahead of the summer window – as they view a striker signing as an “essential” piece of business.

The Brazil international has failed to score a Premier League goal since his reported £60million arrival from Everton last summer (2022) – but has scored twice in the Champions League.

Richarlison has been a bit-part player for Antonio Conte’s side so far this season – starting in just six of his 16 top-flight appearances for the Lilywhites.

He has averaged almost a goal every four Premier League games in spells with Tottenham, Everton, and Watford.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I would hold on to him if I was Spurs.

“He could come good for them.

“But he needs game time. You can’t be bringing him on for 20 minutes every week and expect him to score goals.

“He’s not scored in the Premier League this season because he hasn’t had the time.

“I’ve been there.

“When you’re brought on as a sub, you’re not warm enough, you’re not used to the pace of the game.

“Conte needs to give him time and give him a run of games so he can go out and prove himself.

“If they sold him now, they’d be losing money.”
