Agbonlahor certain about Harry Maguire quitting Man United for new club – ‘it’s now clear’
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted “questions” will be asked of Man United defender Harry Maguire should he stay at Old Trafford for the 2023-24 campaign.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old will not be selected for the 2024 European Championships if he remains a bit-part player at United.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (25 May), England boss Gareth Southgate warned Maguire his lack of Man United minutes “can’t continue forever” if he wants to keep his place in the Three Lions side.
Sources told this site earlier this year (11 March) that Man United fear they won’t be able to sell the defender due to his “insane” wages.
It is believed that Erik ten Hag wishes to sell Maguire this summer, with a younger replacement high on his list of priorities.
However, Maguire’s wage could be a sticking point for potential suitors, with the 30-year-old earning more than £200,000 a week.
The former Leicester star has made 31 appearances this season – but has started in just 16 of those outings.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “If Maguire doesn’t leave in the summer, you’ve got to question him.
“It seems like anyone is playing ahead of him – and it’s clear that Ten Hag doesn’t rate him.
“He should leave – but where does he go? What kind of level does he end up at?

“It’s going to be difficult, but he has to go. He was lucky to get in the latest England squad, and he will know that.
“There’s a big European Championships coming up and if he is still at Man United, he won’t be playing in them.”
