Agbonlahor issues emphatic Phil Foden transfer claim as six-year deal agreed

Phil Foden will be “demanding” his wages in a potential new contract are in line with the rest of the big earners at Man City.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Foden is in talks with Man City over a new deal.

The Daily Star reported last week (9 July) that the 22-year-old has agreed a £200,000-a-week six-year deal with his boyhood club.

Man City

His current terms have two years left to run and his new contract will put him amongst the top earners at the Etihad.

The new contract will net Foden £15million in basic wages alone over the course of the six years.

“I don’t think he will ever leave Man City, only if he fell out with a manager in the future,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s his club, he’s a Manchester boy. He knows he’s going to get the right money that he deserves.

“But he will always want what he deserves, wages wise. He will look at other players and what they are earning.

“Sometimes, when you are a local, they can try and offer you less because they don’t feel like you will ever want to leave.

“I’m sure Foden will be demanding that he gets the right pay.”

Foden has scored 45 times and provided 33 assists in 167 games across all competitions for Man City since making his senior debut in November 2017.

In the 2021-22 campaign, the England international chipped in with 25 goal contributions in 45 appearances across all competitions.
