Agbonlahor issues Liverpool U-turn verdict after £80m+ Sadio Mane twist

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Liverpool should try and keep Sadio Mane but a move away may be “best for both parties”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Mane may regret the nature of his possible Anfield exit.

The Mirror reported on Monday (13 June) that the 30-year-old wanted a four-year deal worth around £400,000-a-week to commit his future to Liverpool.

That would be an outlay of around £83million over the course of the contract.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday (15 June) that Mane, who has a year left on his current deal, has agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich who are set to submit a new bid.

“I would keep Mane, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What he offers the club, what he offers the team, I would keep him.

“Liverpool might not want to break that wage structure. They won’t be held to ransom. It will be interesting to see.

“When a player wants out so much, it’s hard to stop them, it’s hard to keep them around.

“Maybe it’s best for both parties. Mane wants to try a different league, he wants the money he feels he deserves and Liverpool don’t want to pay it.

“There shouldn’t be any hard feelings but the way he has pushed it through, he’ll probably regret it because he had a great time there.”

Liverpool

Football Insider first reported last month (21 May) that Liverpool had no plans to hand Mane a major pay hike.

He looks set to end his spell at the club with 120 goals and 48 assists in 269 appearances across all competitions.

In other news, Liverpool could form a big six alliance as an FA plan is confirmed.
