Agbonlahor on Man City signing Raheem Sterling replacement after near-£50m news

Man City do not need to sign a replacement for Raheem Sterling, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Man City have enough quality attacking players and Sterling’s move to Chelsea worked for all parties.

City confirmed earlier this week (13 July) that the 27-year-old had completed a permanent move to their Premier League rivals.

Sky Sports reported the day after that he was Chelsea’s number one priority and they had paid £47.5million for his services.

Man City have also lost Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal this summer but have added Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland to Pep Guardiola’s squad that won the Premier League in 2021-22.

Asked whether the Premier League champions need to replace Sterling, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t feel they need to.

“They’ve got [Jack] Grealish, Alvarez, [Phil] Foden, [Riyad] Mahrez, Haaland and [Cole] Palmer.

“Sterling was playing less and less. Sterling deserved better and deserved his move to Chelsea but I don’t think Man City will need to replace him because they’ve got top, top players in their squad.

“It was one of those transfers that was just right for both player and club.”

Sterling ended his spell with City with 131 goals in 339 games across all competitions making him the club’s 11th all-time top scorer.

Only Sergio Aguero scored more than his 91 Premier League goals for the club and he is also the second-highest scorer in Europe, again behind Aguero.
