Agbonlahor salutes Man City after new Marc Cucurella twist

Gabby Agbonlahor has heaped praise on Man City for not paying “over the odds” for Marc Cucurella.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted Cucurella had not “stood out as amazing” while at Brighton.

The Daily Mail reported on Monday (1 August) that Chelsea are confident of completing a deal with Brighton for the 23-year-old.

They have agreed to meet their £50million asking price while Man City are unwilling to improve their £40million offer.

Football Insider reported earlier this month (22 June) that the left-back was a City target and they had reached an agreement on personal terms.

“I like it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We all know about Man City having so many billions and being able to buy who they want but Pep has probably said ‘I like him, I want him, but this is the amount I’m paying because I’ve got [Joao] Cancelo and [Nathan] Ake can fill in there. I’d rather play them than pay over the odds’.

“Chelsea are paying over the odds. I think he’s a good player but if you’re saying £50million and people are moaning about £60million for [James] Maddison it doesn’t make sense.

Man City

“I like the way Man City have set an amount they’ll pay and not go over it.

“If Pep wanted it they’d pay £50million but he probably feels that you can get judged on transfers and it’s a lot of money who had a decent season at Brighton but is not someone who stood out as amazing to me, to be honest.”
