Agbonlahor shares three-word verdict on Gerrard quitting Rangers for Wolves after reveal

There is “not a chance” Wolves can lure Steven Gerrard away from Rangers to become their next manager, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward admitted Wolves have been “outstanding” but it is not enough to bring Gerrard back to England.

Football Insider understands the Midlands club are in talks to appoint Bruno Lage as their new boss but it has hit a stumbling block.

New Brexit rules mean deals for his assistant coaches have been made harder and they are currently navigating red tape.

The Athletic report both Gerrard and his ex-England teammate Frank Lampard have been considered as alternatives by Wolves but an approach has not been made.

Gerrard recently guided Rangers through an invincible league campaign and a historic 55th Scottish Premiership title.

The Ibrox outfit also reached the Europa League round of 16 and have qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Asked whether the 41-year-old would be tempted by a potential move to Molineux, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Not a chance.

“Wolves have been outstanding but if you look at their recent history it’s not the sort of club that managers like Gerrard from where he is to go to.

“With what Rangers are doing at the moment he’s not going to want to leave. No way.”

Wolves announced Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure ahead of their final game of the season last month.

He guided them to a 13th-place finish in the Premier League after successive seventh-place finishes in the previous two campaigns.

In other news, “Gerrard will be concerned” as a European giant reportedly want an “amazing” Rangers player.
