Agbonlahor suggests real reason ‘amazing’ Nuno quit Wolves after what he’s ‘heard’

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Nuno Espirito Santo has left Wolves for family reasons.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward also suggested the Portuguese may have not been guaranteed the funds to add to his squad next season.

The Midlands outfit announced Espirito Santo’s departure last Friday ahead of his final game in charge last weekend.

The official statement claimed the decision was reached by a “mutual agreement”.

Asked whether it was the right time for the 47-year-old to move on, Midlands-based Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “For Nuno, he’s probably thinking ‘Where can I now take this Wolves team to? In my first two seasons in the Premier League, I finished seventh and this season hasn’t been great, where can this team go?’

“He needs a lot of players in there to build a bigger squad and he’s probably not been promised the money to do that.

“He’s at a crossroads of ‘Maybe, it’s time for me to leave.’

“I’ve heard from people in the Midlands his family aren’t with him in Wolverhampton so maybe he’s missing his family and he’s tired and he wants a break and a year out. Then maybe he can manage somewhere else.

“You can’t blame him, he’s left Wolves in an amazing place. I’m sure the Wolves fans will love him for what he’s done for their club.”

Football Insider understands Wolves’ search for a new manager will include an approach to ex-Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi.

There was widespread speculation that Nuno could land the Spurs job but this site understands he will not be interviewed for the position.
