Agbonlahor issues ‘staggering’ Liverpool claim as Jurgen Klopp set for sack
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed potential new Liverpool owners could look to replace Jurgen Klopp when they take control of the club.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Reds stars don’t look “motivated” by the 55-year-old – and claimed that his reign has “gone stale”.
Liverpool fell 3-0 away at Wolves on Saturday (4 February), meaning they have lost four of their seven games across all competitions so far in 2023.
The Merseysiders are 10th in the Premier League after 20 games – 11 points adrift of a top-four finish.
Sources told Football Insider on Tuesday (7 February) that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group will continue to back their under-fire manager no matter what.
However, the Anfield club have held preliminary takeover talks with the £373billion-valued Qatar Investment Authority after FSG welcomed new investment in 2022.
Klopp is under contract until June 2026.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s done an outstanding job at Liverpool.
“But their decline now is staggering. The teams they are putting out are strong teams – even with the injuries to Van Dijk, Diaz, and Jota.
“It’s a strong team who don’t look motivated by their manager – and that comes down to Klopp.
“He looks defeated on the sideline.
“Is it time for Liverpool to say – new owners, new manager.

“It goes stale at a football club sometimes. Is Klopp motivated enough after winning everything there is to win?
“It’s a big question for the new owners to think about when they come in.”
