Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about Leeds United binning Patrick Bamford after footage emerges

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he is “sure” Leeds will reassess the future of Patrick Bamford following his “laboured” displays in the 2022-23 campaign.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Whites need strikers capable of staying fit if they are to remain a Premier League side.

Bamford was unable to start in losses against Liverpool and Fulham earlier following a minor injury but returned to the lineup as Leeds drew 1-1 against Leicester on Tuesday (25 April).

As seen on BT Sport (25 April), the England international spurned a glorious chance to win the relegation six-pointer, firing wide from close range after a 90th-minute corner.

Bamford, who earns a reported £70,000-a-week on a contract which runs until June 2026, has managed just three Premier League goals in 24 appearances this season.

The striker has once again seen his involvement limited by injury after making just nine Premier League appearances last term.

Leeds sit 16th in the top flight – just two points outside the drop zone.

When asked if it is time for the Whites to move on from Bamford, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I would say so, yes.

“When I watch Bamford, he’s someone who looks like he’s labouring around the pitch.

“He’s never been blessed with pace but he has lost a yard. He looks in pain when he plays, and everything looks tough for him right now.

“He’s had so many injuries now, too. When does it come to a stage where Leeds have had enough? They need strikers who are guaranteed to be fit and get around the pitch.

“I’m sure Leeds will look at it in the summer. But for players like Bamford or Calvert-Lewin, their next moves will have to be on pay-as-you-play contracts.”

In other news, Leeds could now accept £25m winger offer.
