Agbonlahor swipes at David de Gea as details emerge from Man United – ‘he’s rinsed them’

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man United should not buckle and give David de Gea another “ridiculous” contract after he reportedly rejected their latest offer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 32-year-old has “rinsed” the Red Devils in recent years after turning in “really poor performances”.

According to The Athletic (29 March), De Gea has rejected Man United’s “unsatisfactory” latest contract offer – with his current deal set to expire in June.

The report claims the Spaniard is currently on £375,000-a-week at Old Trafford – a figure United are apparently keen to reduce.

De Gea remains the number one shot-stopper at the club after seeing off a challenge from England international Dean Henderson – who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Football Insider revealed in December 2022 that Man United have a “concrete” interest in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s in a completely different situation to Marcus Rashford, who is also out of contract soon.

“Rashford is 25, De Gea is into his thirties.

“Rashford has been in the form of his life, De Gea hasn’t. Why would Man United be happy to keep him on his ridiculous contract?

“He doesn’t deserve it. I’m sure they’re not wanting him to go down to £100,000-a-week – he will still be on a fair wage. He’s not going to starve.

“Man United are probably not fussed if he goes. They’ve got Henderson potentially coming back, they can go into the market and sign whoever.

“De Gea has rinsed them for many years with some really poor performances. They can’t make the same mistake again.

“He won’t get that big money anywhere else, that’s for sure.”
