Agbonlahor swipes at Man City fans after new Pep Guardiola outburst – ‘look at Man United’

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man City will “never” have a vociferous fanbase when compared to their Premier League rivals following Pep Guardiola’s stunning outburst.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested most of Manchester sides with Man United – meaning the Etihad Stadium is populated with “tourists” and “neutrals”.

Man City were booed off the pitch by sections of their home support as they went into half-time 2-0 down against Tottenham last week (19 February) – with the fans criticised by pundits and commentators.

The Premier League champions roared back to a 4-2 lead with a stunning second-half comeback, but Guardiola was left unimpressed post-match.

Speaking post-match (as per Sky’s Football Daily Twitter account), he suggested the home supporters were “silent for 45 minutes” and insisted he “wants his fans back” – in a rallying call to the Etihad Stadium faithful.

The Spaniard claimed his side are lacking the “fire” and “passion” needed to compete with a hungry Arsenal side for the Premier League title this season.

When asked if Guardiola has a point with his comments, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do think so, yeah.

“Pep, over the years, hasn’t been impressed with the noise or the atmosphere.

“Sometimes, clubs just haven’t got that fanbase. We all know that Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal – they’ve got big fanbases.

“I don’t think they’ll ever get to that level. Manchester is predominantly on the side of Man United.

“There may be a lot of tourists in the stadium, or people who are neutrals.

“I just don’t think Pep will be able to get that level of support he wants.”
