Agbonlahor tells Tottenham to seal £50m Joao Palhinha deal as midfield duo savaged

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham to seal a £50million deal for Fulham star Joao Palhinha following his impressive displays this term.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested current midfielders Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr are not good enough for Spurs going forward.

Sources told this site on Thursday (27 April) that Tottenham, Man United and Chelsea are interested in signing Palhinha this summer.

It is believed that Fulham will hold out for offers in excess of £50million for the Portugal international, who only joined the club for a reported £20million last summer (2022).

According to FBRef, Palhinha has made the most tackles of any top-flight player this term (119) – ahead of the likes of Tyler Adams and Moises Caicedo.

Spurs are likely to have to lure the midfield ace to the club without Champions League football following their poor recent form.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think they’ve been so unlucky with Bentancur’s injury.

“He was outstanding earlier this season but he’s out for a while now.

“I like Hojbjerg, but he’s not at the level that other teams have got in their midfield.

“I would definitely go out and get Palhinha.

“They need more fight in that midfield, for me. Sarr has been poor when he’s played, Skipp isn’t really at the level of Spurs – if I’m honest.

“They need reinforcements in midfield and I really like Palhinha. He can get around, he’s great at tackling, and he’s a Portugal international.”
