Agbonlahor tips Aston Villa for ‘£50m’ Harvey Barnes swoop – ‘he’s a superstar’
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Aston Villa to beat Newcastle United to the “£50million” signing of Leicester City ace Harvey Barnes.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old can become a “superstar” under the stewardship of Unai Emery.
According to the Daily Mail (4 May), Aston Villa are watching Leicester winger Barnes closely as the summer window approaches.
Football Insider revealed last month (April) that interested clubs Newcastle and Tottenham will have to pay the Foxes a fee of £50million to land the England international.
Barnes, who has just over two years left to run on his contract at Leicester, has notched 10 goals and three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.
Aston Villa sit eighth and could be playing European football in the 2023-24 campaign.
When asked if can see the Midlands giants spending £50million on Barnes, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I can, yeah.
“I really like him. He’s a little bit of good coaching away from being a superstar, in my opinion.
“He gets into so many good positions, but he might make the wrong pass or take the wrong shot sometimes.
“Unai Emery and his sides love to get in behind. Barnes has got pace and can score great goals when it’s his day.

“I think that under Emery, he can be a top player and a regular England international.
“I would pay £50million for him this summer, definitely.”
