Alan Shearer fires warning shots to senior Newcastle man
By Amir Mir
Alan Shearer believes “actions speak louder than words” when referring to Mike Ashley’s promise to Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.
Club owner Ashley has promised big funds to the Magpies boss after he helped them secure promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
As a result, Benitez has confirmed that he will be staying on at St James’ Park when they return to the promise land next term.
During his tenure at Newcastle, Ashley has been a controversial and unpopular figure with supporters because of the manner in which he has run the club.
Club legend Shearer fired these warning shots to the club’s senior man to deliver on his promise as he gave his verdict on Benitez staying on at the club.
“Mike has promised that there is big funds for Rafa to spend which is great news, but actions speak louder than words,” Shearer told Coral’s official YouTube account.
“We will have to wait and see whether that will happen but hopefully it will and it is all good news for Newcastle.”
The Magpies made an instant return to the Premier League by winning the Championship title on the last day of the season.
Benitez’ team beat Barnsley 3-0 last Sunday as their title rivals, Brighton conceded a late equaliser at Aston Villa which handed the north east club the title.
Both clubs will meet in the top tier next term, with Newcastle returning to familliar ground while the Seagulls are in the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Benitez has managed Liverpool before in the Premier League where the Spaniard guided the Merseyside club to one of their most memorable moments in their history, the 2005 Champions League triumph.
In other Newcastle news, Rafa Benitez has named the four clubs that are an inspiration for his team.
