Alfredo Morelos could pull Rangers U-turn after what expert has just spotted

Noel Whelan has suggested Alfredo Morelos could “come to his senses” in contract negotiations if Michael Beale restores a “winning mentality” at Rangers.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the former Ibrox coach’s pre-existing relationship with the players will give him an advantage in his new post.

Morelos played 90 minutes and grabbed the winner as Rangers recorded a 3-2 win over Hibernian in Beale’s first game as manager on Thursday (15 December).

The new boss has hinted that he will line up with two strikers, opening the door to a potential partnership with top scorer Antonio Colak.

Morelos is currently set to walk away from Rangers for free at the end of this season and can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from 1 January.

Sources told this site last week (10 December) that the Ibrox club have failed to agree a new contract with Morelos after he demanded £45,000-per-week.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Look, if it wasn’t a manager Morelos didn’t already know then we might not have seen that same impact on Thursday.

“But because he’s got that relationship with Beale, it can only be a huge plus.

“I know it wasn’t the appointment that some people wanted, but he’s got that relationship already built.

“He doesn’t need to do that groundwork with most of the players.

“If he can get the best out of Morelos, then it can only be a good sign for his chances of staying at the club.

Rangers

“He’s a fantastic goalscorer, his record has proved that again and again.

“Rangers need to find that momentum, and if Beale can restore that winning feeling and positive atmosphere then Morelos could come to his senses.”
