Ange Postecoglou could now reject Celtic offer after journalist’s new update – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Ange Postecoglou will delay signing a new Celtic contract until the end of the season amid new interest from the Premier League.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a move south of the border would be “really tough” to turn down.
According to The Telegraph‘s John Percy (2 October), Postecoglou has been discussed as a potential replacement for Bruno Lage after his sacking at Wolves.
Football Insider revealed last month (24 September) that Celtic are planning to offer Postecoglou a “huge” new contract to secure his long-term future after he was shortlisted by Brighton.
The Australian’s Parkhead contract runs until the end of the season as he is on a 12-month rolling deal.
Postecoglou won the Scottish Premiership during his first season with the Hoops, earning praise for his attacking style and quality additions in the transfer market.
Whelan suggested the Celtic boss will want to assess his options with “a lot of managers under pressure in the Premier League”.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If he’s got less than a year left on his contract, he’s in the driving seat.
“He’s had success at Celtic. He’s won cups, a league title, they’re in the Champions League – he’s done everything expected of him.
“I think he’s one of these managers that will probably leave if a better opportunity comes his way.
“If a club like Wolves offers him a job, it’s a really tough one to turn down.
“Even if Celtic offered him a contract now, I think he’ll wait until the end of the season.

“He’ll still be successful at Celtic, he’ll probably still win trophies – including the Scottish Premiership.
“There are a lot of managers under pressure in the Premier League right now.”
