Another major twist in Newcastle striker loan exit, player jets out for fresh move – reliable journalist
Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has jetted out and could be set for talks with French club Bordeaux in a dramatic twist, according to a reliable journalist.
Chronicle editor Mark Douglas has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 23-year-old is currently in the air and could be on course to join the Ligue 1 side.
It is a dramatic turn of events after BBC Radio 5 reporter Ian Dennis claimed earlier on Wednesday’s deadline day that Mitrovic’s loan exit to Belgian side had broken down.
The Serbia international has been heavily linked with an exit in the January window and it looks like his departure is set to go down to the wire.
However, it does appear the Premier League side have signed a centre-forward in Islam Slimani from Leicester City, with reliably journalist Lee Ryder reporting the update in that pursuit.
Football Insider verdict
Mitrovic has played just seven times this season for Newcastle and it is obvious to see why he is desperately pursing a late move away from St James’ Park. The centre-forward needs to be playing games and has fallen out of favour with manager Rafael Benitez. He is not going to enjoy much luck in the second half of the season as he sits behind Joselu and Dwight Gayle in the pecking order, while Slimani could soon be added to that list. Mitrovic still has a bright future ahead of him at the age of 23 and a move away to help reignite his career is in the best interest of the player.
