Anthony Gordon: Pundit shares ‘big’ Newcastle player claim as price skyrockets

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon’s price tag will skyrocket if he becomes a starter for England.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Rangers defender Alan Hutton claimed that young attacking England internationals have a “premium” value and Gordon’s will be taken to a “different level” if he becomes a regular for Gareth Southgate.

The 23-year-old made his senior Three Lions debut in their 1-0 friendly defeat against Brazil on Saturday (23 March) and made his second appearance from the bench against Belgium on Tuesday (26 March).

He earned his call-up amid his exceptional first season with the Magpies after his reported £45million move from Everton, having bagged 10 goals and seven assists across 40 appearances in all competitions.

Newcastle United could see huge Anthony Gordon price tag boost

Hutton admitted that Gordon would struggle to break into the Three Lions’ starting line-up considering the depth at Southgate’s disposal, but claimed he has the “confidence and belief” to make a case for himself.

“From what I know, there’s always a premium price tag when you’re a young English attacker,” he told Football Insider.

“When he starts breaking in the England team regularly, we’re talking about a different level.

“I think it will be difficult for him to become a regular, however.

“There’s too many in front of him at this moment in time, but what he’s doing is playing well for his club and working very hard.

“He did the exact same when he went to England and showed Gareth Southgate what he’s capable of.

“The big thing for me is can he show Southgate that he’s capable of playing in the way that he wants?

“Can he impact football games?

“He definitely has that confidence and belief that he can go and do it.

“But the only problem he has at this moment in time is that England are very, very strong in the attacking areas.”
