Anthony Gordon to sign Newcastle contract ‘with release clause’ – fans react
Newcastle United are hopeful of progressing in contract talks with Anthony Gordon after he was linked with a move away all summer.
Liverpool were highly interested in signing the England international during the recently closed transfer window but were unable to negotiate a deal with Newcastle.
The 23-year-old remained at St James’ Park for the current season, and the north east giants are now reportedly looking to lock him into a new deal.
The left-winger is under contract with the Premier League giants until 2026, but the club want to extend that.
Gordon has been a regular feature in Eddie Howe’s team since joining in January 2023, going on to play 68 times for the Magpies.
The forward has scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists, breaking into the England squad in the process.
Newcastle United fans expect Anthony Gordon’s new deal to have a twist
Gordon has already opened his account for the new season, having scored once in Newcastle’s opening four fixtures in all competitions.
The Toon Army faithful want to see the winger put pen to paper on a new deal, but fans believe there will likely be a clause added in.
