Anthony Martial deal could spark Man United ‘clear out’ – ‘it’s time’, says pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested there will be a “clear out” at Man United in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender urged Anthony Martial to move on from Old Trafford.

According to the Manchester Evening News (6 February), the Red Devils are aiming to sell Martial, 27, amid plans to sign a long-term striker.

The forward has been plagued by injury problems and has missed 20 of United’s 34 games this season as a result of five separate layoffs.

The Frenchman’s current contract runs until 2024 and includes the option of a further 12 months and Erik ten Hag feels now is the time to cash in on the attacker.

When asked if Martial’s departure will be dependent on signing a striker, Hutton told Football Insider:I think that is what Ten Hag will be going for in the summer.

They have not overly spent in this window so a number nine would definitely be a missing piece to the puzzle.

Martial has been there a long time, I know they have spent a lot of money on him and we have seen in flashes how good he can be. But, is he going to be that go-to guy that is going to score you all the goals that you need? I do not think so.

Man United

It is probably around that time now where he needs to move on and play regular football.

Man United seem to be going in a different direction, they are playing a different type of football. It would not surprise me if there was a bit of a clear out in the summer.

In other news, according to sources, Man United are in advanced talks over £30m David de Gea deal.
