Anthony Martial told he ‘can’t play for a club like Man United’ after what pundit’s just spotted
Frank McAvennie has claimed Anthony Martial “wants a move” away from Man United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Martial doesn’t have what it takes to be a regular member of the United lineup, despite a recent upturn in form.
The 27-year-old will have a year left on his Old Trafford contract at the end of the season and his deal also includes the option of a further 12 months.
Despite having fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag, Martial started last weekend’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest and featured in the starting XI for both legs against Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final.
But, according to the Guardian (21 April), the Frenchman is one of a potential 15 United players whose futures are under threat this summer as Ten Hag plans a summer clearout of first team stars.
When asked if Martial has what it takes to break into the starting XI more regularly, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No.
“I think they need an out and out striker. He has been doing well the last couple of games because [Marcus] Rashford has not been playing. I do not know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

“He has been playing better but it is coming to the end of the season, maybe he is playing better because he wants a move.
“He is a talented boy but you can’t play for a club like Man United and not put in 100 per cent every week. You can’t do that. Martial, no matter how talented he is, has not been doing it.“
