Arsenal and Chelsea fans joined in outrage over Declan Rice incident at West Ham
Arsenal fans were infuriated by referee Anthony Taylor for penalising Declan Rice’s challenge on Lucas Paquetá in the 5-2 win at West Ham.
The incident occurred on the edge of the Gunners box former Hammers captain Rice made a diving challenge on Lucas Paquetá whilst the Gunners led 4-1, with Emerson scoring the resulting free-kick off the underside of the bar.
Arsenal went on to secure a stunning 5-2 victory with goals from Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka but supporters couldn’t believe Taylor’s decision.
Suspended Irons manager Julen Lopetegui watched on from the stands as West Ham tried to reduce the deficit again in the second half but couldn’t find a way through as they were brought back to earth following their 2-0 win at Newcastle on Monday.
Mikel Arteta’s side made it 13 goals scored in three games as they followed up their wins over Nottingham Forest and Sporting with another rampant attacking display inspired by Saka.
Anthony Taylor enrages Arsenal and Chelsea supporters
Fans took to X to voice their frustration, with one claiming Taylor “is just not fit to referee” while the decision was branded a “disgrace”.
And Gunners supporters even found some support from fans of London rivals Chelsea, who have their own issues with the Taylor, as he was labelled the “worst referee in England”.
Most clubs able to come up with something from Taylor to feel aggrieved about, but the Arsenal fanbase were particularly unimpressed by him giving the Hammers a brief route back into the game.
In other news, Man City have been tipped to sell a West Ham target in January.
