Arsenal chiefs told to intervene after ‘ludicrous’ Aubameyang development today – pundit

The Arsenal owners should force Mikel Arteta to reintegrate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back into his squad, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Arsenal are crying out for goals and it is “ludicrous” to continue to freeze out Aubameyang.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reported today (26 January) the striker’s exile is set to continue as he is not part of the travelling party for the winter training camp in Dubai.

The 32-year-old has not featured for the Gunners since December and was stripped of the captaincy for a disciplinary breach.

“A big thing Arteta needs to do is suck up his pride and bring back Aubameyang,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They’ve not scored a Premier League goal this month. They’re struggling to score and it’s one of the worst records they’ve had.

“You can’t rely on Alexandre Lacazette, he’s a striker who should be brought on for 20 minutes. He hasn’t got the legs to play 90 minutes and stretch teams. Eddie Nketiah isn’t good enough, he’s not a Premier League striker.

“You’ve got a Premier League proven striker sitting on his own. I think it’s ridiculous.

“If the owners had anything about them they would force Arteta to bring him back in. Whilst you’re paying him £350,000-a-week and you’re not scoring goals it’s ludicrous to have him sitting there.

“If he doesn’t move in January, Mikel Arteta needs to bring him back in and suck up your pride. “

Arsenal have only scored once in their last five games across all competitions this month.

Aubameyang has found the net 68 times in 128 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
