Arsenal could sanction ‘£50m’ Tavares transfer after broadcaster’s reveal – Campbell

Man City could prize Nuno Tavares away from Arsenal if they table a bid in the region of £50million.

That is the view of former Gunners and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about reported interest in the 21-year-old defender from the Premier League champions.

Tavares has impressed since arriving to the Emirates in an £8million deal last July.

The left-back has even kept Kieran Tierney out of Mikel Arteta’s side in recent weeks.

According to ESPN (12 December), Man City scouts have watched Tavares this season as they look at potential left-back options ahead of the January transfer window.

Pep Guardiola’s side only have one recognised left-back in Oleksandr Zinchenko after Benjamin Mendy was suspended by the club.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the news, Campbell said: “It is a dilemma for Arteta.

“The way Man City are, they are not afraid to look at one of our players. They will just make Arsenal an offer they can’t refuse.

“At Arsenal, Tavares is second choice really. If you are trying to progress the team, you shouldn’t sell though. It is a really tough situation.

“At the end of the day, it is about what Man City put on the table. Everybody has a price, let’s be honest. It’s a question of if or what they put on the table… £50million would be interesting.”

Tavares has made 14 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions this season.

He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in north London.
