Arsenal told to let duo go as journalist reveals deals already agreed at £12m – pundit

Arsenal are right to let Konstantinos Mavropanos and Matteo Guendouzi leave the club for nominal fees, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the club “could scupper” the duo’s futures if they’re not sold.

According to Football.London‘s Chris Wheatley (24th October), Mavropanos, 23, and Guendouzi, 22, will both leave the Emirates permanently next summer.

Mavropanos is currently out on loan at Stuttgart, who have a obligation to buy the defender £2.5m at the end of the season.

Guendouzi is spending the season at Marseille, and will join permanently in a £9.5million deal if they avoid relegation.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the deals represented good business, Campbell said: “At the end of the day, it is what it is.

“Holding onto these players for another season to try and get more money is not right. You could scupper their future. I don’t think that is where Arsenal are at right now.

“They could have chosen not to include these clauses but then perhaps you don’t get the deals done.

“Listen, they are playing well. Good luck to them. I wish them well and may they have a great future.

“Arsenal are going in a different direction. Let’s be honest, Mavropanos is not a [William] Saliba, he is not a Ben White, he is not a Gabriel. Unfortunately, there has to be some slippage.”
