Arsenal should only sign Aurier on one condition after Sky reveal – Campbell

Arsenal should only sign Serge Aurier if Mikel Arteta is not going to give Ainsely Maitland-Niles an opportunity this season.

That is the view of former Gunners and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of Aurier, 28, arriving at the Emirates.

Aurier is a free agent after his contract at Tottenham was mutually terminated after the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Sports (September 2nd), the right-back is open to a move to Arsenal despite his ties with their north London rivals.

Aurier is said to want to stay in England amid offers from France, Russia and Turkey.

Mikel Arteta currently has Cedric Soares, Callum Chambers, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles as his options at right-back.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the potential arrival of Aurier, Campbell said:“It’s an interesting one, that’s for sure.

“I have seen Serge Aurier have some good games and I have seen him have some stinkers.

“The big thing is, he will cost nothing. It would be a low-risk deal financially,

“Maybe, if the likes of Maitland-Niles is not going to get an opportunity you bring him in. Cedric and Chambers, I cannot see it happening for them.

“And perhaps [Takehiro] Tomiyasu will play in a back five as the right-sided centre-half. I do not see it coming off at the moment though, if I’m honest.”

In other news, Campbell ‘cannot believe’ Arsenal have missed out on this signing after footage emerges.
