‘Arsenal to open Antoine Semenyo talks’

Arsenal have been backed to open talks over a move to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, explained that Arsenal are among multiple clubs looking to land a deal.

Football Insider revealed on 12 October that Newcastle are plotting a move for the 24-year-old and have been joined in their pursuit by Tottenham and Arsenal.

This is despite him having signed a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium in July.

Now, Robinson has insisted the Ghana international would be a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s side thanks to the work he does off the ball.

Since his move to Bournemouth in 2023, Semenyo has scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 56 games, with three goals and one assist in eight games so far this season.

This has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and across Europe as they consider making a move in the January window.

The interest in Semenyo’s signature comes as the Gunners are keen to add depth to their forward line amid concerns about an injury crisis.

Robinson has insisted that the forward’s ability to play across the front line would make him a valuable asset while his goal threat is also seen as an important addition.

He’s had a really good season so far,” he told Football Insider.

“You’ve got to look at it over a longer period of time and I do think he’s a quality player.

“There’s more to come from him as well.

“When you look at how Arsenal play with three behind the main striker, he would be a good fit for all of those positions.

“Higher up in the wide areas especially, and he’s a goal threat.

“It’s clearly an area that they’re going to look at going forward, but I don’t think Arsenal will be the only side at the table holding talks with him.

“Other teams across Europe will look at the way Semenyo has been playing and his stats.

“If you look at his incredible running stats as well, they’re right up there. He works hard.

“He’s definitely a player who fits the Arteta mould.”
