Ashley Young accepts Everton offer after breakthrough – sources

Ashley Young has told Everton he will accept their offer of a one-year contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.

The 38-year-old’s current contract is about to expire at the end of next month but he is now set to remain at Goodison Park.

Young has been offered a one-year extension by Everton, whose manager Sean Dyche values the player’s experience and versatility highly.

An agreement has been reached in principle and he is expected to put pen to paper soon.

The wide player – who is capable of operating as a full-back or a winger on either flank – made 31 Premier League appearances in the 2023/24 season, starting 27 times.

Young boasts a wealth of experience in the English top flight with former clubs Manchester United, Aston Villa and Watford and has 453 career Premier League appearances to his name.

Everton

Everton’s financial difficulties – having been hit with two points deductions for separate breaches of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) this term – alongside continued uncertainty regarding a potential takeover by Miami-based firm 777 Partners are likely to limit their ability to spend in the upcoming summer transfer window.

They are expected to focus on free transfers, loans and cheap deals once again this summer.
