Aston Villa fans call on Twitter for Bruce to start 28-year-old ace v Ipswich
By Will Butcher
Aston Villa’s Twitter fans want Steve Bruce to give Birkir Bjarnason another chance by starting him against Ipswich despite a disappointing start to life in claret and blue.
The 28-year-old has struggled to adapt to the rigours of the second tier of English football since moving from Swiss giants FC Basel in January for £1.75million.
Originally a central midfielder, Bjarnason was played at left wing-back in a 3-5-2 system against Nottingham Forest, a match in which the Midlands outfit lost 2-1 at the City Ground.
However, fans are willing to remain patient with the 56-time Iceland international, as he continues in his attempts to learn about English football and gel with his fellow new signings.
Aston Villa fans called on Twitter for Bruce to start Bjarnason against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich, as Villa look to end a dismal run of form that has seen them lose five of their last seven games.
Some fans are also keen for their number 20 to be reinstated back in Villa’s midfield, after looking out of position on the left flank.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Bjarnason was one of eight January signings made by promotion expert Bruce, who also brought in midfielders Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane.
A win for Villa would see the Midlands outfit end a run of seven games without a victory, and leapfrog Brentford into 13th place if the Bees drop points to Preston.
