Aston Villa fans share their verdicts on the club’s January signings

By Dominic Toner

Aston Villa were very active in the transfer window with bolstering their squad – and the club’s supporters revealed on Twitter they were thrilled with their business.

The Midlands giants recruited eight new faces during the January window as they look to make a late bid towards the play-off places.

Steve Bruce’s team were beaten 3-0 away to Brentford on Tuesday night and will need their new players to perform if they are to bridge the 10-point gap.

Sam Johnstone, Henri Lansbury, Birkir Bjarnason, Conor Hourihane, James Bree, Jacob Bedeau, Neil Taylor and Scott Hogan have all moved to the club.

Meanwhile, Rudy Gestede, Aly Cissokho, Piergluigi Gollini, Aaron Tshibola, Ashley Westwood, Jordan Ayew and Ross McCormack have all departed.

Villa fans expressed their excitement about the January recruits and feel they have added some real quality.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Villa will be desperate for the new players to make an impression and improve their disappointing goalscoring record, scoring just 28 goals in 28 Championship matches.

Bruce will hope that Lansbury and Hourihane can add some extra goals from midfield, while they also managed to secure a deal for Hogan from Brentford on deadline day.

The 24-year-old has managed just 14 goals in 27 appearances this campaign and should be a real asset to the side.

Villa are without a win in their last six games across all competitions and will be looking to end that run away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
