Aston Villa first-teamer slips back to reserves following loss v Nottingham Forest
By Matt Farr
Andre Green has been named in Aston Villa’s reserve side as they prepare to take on Norwich on Monday night.
The 18-year-old has appeared in Aston Villa’s last five matches in all competitions, playing the full 90 minutes on two occasions.
But he managed just a five minute cameo appearance in the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Championship on Saturday.
Aston Villa confirmed that Green had been made available for the youth side on their official Twitter account on Monday afternoon.
They also confirmed that Keinan Davis, who made three first-team appearances last month, was also set to take part.
Green has only recently been reinstated to the first-team setup, having started the campaign as a regular in the matchday squad under Roberto Di Matteo.
However, following the Italian’s dismissal in October, Green slipped under the radar as new chief Steve Bruce assessed his inherited squad.
He was named in the matchday squad just twice between October 18 and January 7, but returned to the fray in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in the FA Cup.
He finally made his first Championship start of the season in the 2-2 draw against Preston on January 21.
Bruce has been impressed with the young winger during his recent stint back in the first-team picture, but the Villa boss has allowed him to return to Under-23 duties to get more match practice under his belt.
In other Aston Villa news, Villa have entered a four-horse race to sign this Football League forward in the summer.
