Aston Villa forward undergoes surgery after injury blow

Aston Villa are set to be without Andre Green for an extended period of time after he underwent surgery on a hamstring injury he picked up in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Brentford.

Green, 19, looked poised to be one of Steve Bruce’s key attacking players this season in the absence of Jack Grealish, who is also sidelined with a long-term injury.

However Green’s hopes of being a vital part of the first-team have been dashed by this latest blow which forced him off the pitch in the 60th minute of the draw with Brentford at Villa Park.

Despite undergoing the knife, the England Under-19 international is upbeat about making his return to Championship action in the near future.

“Gutted it come down to this but everything went well with the op. Time to work hard and get back out there,” he said on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

Green has been in good form for Villa in the early games this season and even scored his first senior goal in the 4-2 win over Norwich in August.

The wide-forward has played in six of the eight matches so far this term having shown Bruce he is capable of first-team football when he helped dig the Villains out of a hole in the 2016/17 season.

Aston Villa have a number of injury worries ahead of Tuesday night’s showdown with Middlesbrough at Villa Park including Jonathan Kodjia, Josh Onomah and Keinan Davis.
